(June 1984) was an Indian military operation ordered by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to remove Sikh militants, led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. The operation resulted in significant military and civilian casualties, as well as damage to the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal seat.
Brar maintains there was no doubt about the legitimacy of the government order, viewing it as a necessary purge of a defiled shrine.
