The film centers on (played with astonishing authenticity by first-time non-actor Nallandi), an elderly subsistence farmer living in a remote Tamil Nadu village. He is the kadaisi vivasayi —the last farmer in his hamlet, surrounded by fallow lands and families who have abandoned agriculture for city wages.
The story follows Mayandi, an 85-year-old farmer who is the last person in his village to continue traditional farming. When he is falsely accused of killing peacocks (a protected species), he must navigate a bureaucratic legal system that has no room for his simple, nature-aligned way of life.
