Once you have 50 Gold medals in an environment, the 5 Black tracks appear. You do not need Gold on Black tracks to unlock the other environments' Black tracks. You only need to finish them (any medal) to count toward the final total.
The campaign is divided into five color-coded series, each containing 40 tracks (10 per environment: Canyon, Stadium, Valley, and Lagoon). Unlocked by default.
