Loosely inspired by the real-life (also called the “Crazy Eights” runaway train), the film follows veteran engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) and young conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine). They have to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train — nicknamed “The Beast” — carrying dangerous chemicals. The train is barreling toward a densely populated city, and time is running out.
