: This is the most intellectually intriguing rule. In numbers 11–19, the first part (the unit, e.g., ahad , thalatha ) agrees with the counted noun in gender, but opposite to the normal pattern. The second part (the tens, e.g., ‘ashara ) always agrees with the counted noun in a fixed manner (masculine ‘ashara with masculine nouns; feminine ‘ashrata with feminine nouns).
Find all compositions of a target number. Materials: Counters, paper. Method: Say "Target 6." Give each child 6 counters. Ask them to split into two groups. List results: 0+6, 1+5, 2+4, 3+3, 4+2, 5+1, 6+0. Celebrate when they realize the commutative pattern. tarkib adadi
