This paper examines the phenomenon of Goodfellas (1990) within the Vietnamese digital landscape, specifically focusing on the "Vietsub" (Vietnamese subtitled) ecosystem. While Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas is universally acclaimed for its editing, narrative structure, and gritty realism, its reception in Vietnam is heavily mediated by the practice of amateur subtitling. This study explores the linguistic challenges of translating Italian-American vernacular and mob jargon into Vietnamese, the cultural gatekeeping role of subtitling groups, and the impact of digital accessibility on the film’s enduring legacy among Vietnamese audiences.
