The 2008 original, Twilight , was a muted pastel affair—a safety-heavy romance between a human and a vampire. New Moon (2009), directed by Chris Weitz, stripped away that safety net. The feature’s strongest asset is its bold tonal shift. The departure of Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) leaves a vacuum that isn't filled by another lover, but by the raw, physical presence of Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).
